Apr 19, 2017 12:26 PM Back
This exciting extravaganza kicks off a series of soirees for the two of you…so you’re going to want to make it special and make it count. After all, your e-party will set the tone for the rest of your festivities…so, make sure this milestone moment is memorable AND enjoyable.
1. KISS: Keep it simple and sophisticated. Even laid back events can have an elegant flair. Post pictures of your relationship or print up a “magazine” that outlines your relationship and your engagement. Make sure YOU and your guests are having fun and that it’s not stuffy or over the top…there’s plenty of room for that at your wedding. Also, make sure to enjoy your new status (as an engaged couple) before hosting your engagement event.
2. Make Your Meal A Conversation Piece: Pick foods that are your, his and family favorites. Have a “His” food bar, a “Hers” food bar and an “Our” food bar including both some of your dining out and family favorites.
3. Strike A Pose: Hiring a professional is not just for weddings anymore. In addition our trusty smart phones, it’s a smart idea to provide disposable cameras and to hire a pro for capturing the moment. Engagement parties are a GREAT photo opportunity….and these initial pictures will make equally GREAT keepsakes. Just be careful not to overspend.
4. Proper Protocol: Remember unless you’re having a destination wedding or a very small and intimate event (under 50 people) those invited to your e-party should also be invited to other celebrations especially your wedding. Your also going to have to decide whether “invitees” should bring gifts. Remember, you are likely also going to have a shower and THE grand gala, both which REQUIRE they bring presents…so you may want to make your e-party JUST about celebrating the good news.
5. Make It A “Historical” Event: Embrace your background and your heritage. Shoe off your culture but be sure not to repeat the theme or the foods if you also plan on doing so at your wedding.
6. Tiny Bubbles In The Wine: This IS an auspicious occasion…so treat it as such. Sure you’ll want to serve beer and wine…but go ahead and toast the two of you with some bubbly (champagne that is). Better yet, serve up some sensational seasonally inspired champagne cocktails.
7. European Influence: Nothing says mix and mingle like wine and cheese. Set up a Charcuterie and cheese station for your guests to enjoy. Think cured meats, an abundance of various cheeses and plenty of nuts and fresh and dried fruits….tres chic
8. Show Your Guests Special “Favor”: Sure this event may not be one of pomp and circumstance…but guests should still receive the royal treatment. Think about sending guests home with a special keepsake to commemorate their attendance, the event and this special moment in time and in all your lives.
